On May 4, 2007, Mikro Systems (MIKRO) was awarded a 9-month $100,000 Phase I Air Force research contract under the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. The research addresses Manufacturing Process Development of High-Performance Treated Honeycomb Core for Radar Absorbing Application.
MIKRO’s patented Tomo-Lithographic-Molding (TOMOSM) technology has the potential to overcome many of the limitations inherent to current manufacturing approaches and enable production of super-lightweight composite core structures at a lower cost. In addition, TOMO™ offers the capability to incorporate advanced core design features which have not been feasible until now.
The 9-month Phase I effort is intended to demonstrate the technical feasibility of adapting MIKRO’s patented TOMOSM process to the manufacture of advanced composite core structures. If Phase I is successful, MIKRO will be invited to propose a follow-on two-year Phase II R&D effort to further develop the technology needed for this demanding application.
